What started in the fall of 2011 as the “Miracle on Bourbon Street”, has grown to become key to helping men needing a new beginning. That was the beginning of Scott County’s homeless shelter for men. In addition to being a homeless shelter, The Gathering Place Mission Community Kitchen, our Emmaus Kitchen, has served as a key major provider of hot meals to those in the community who might not be having a meal otherwise.
Every year, The Gathering Place Mission continues to grow as it reaches out to men in the community needing a shelter and all those in the community needing a hot meal. The Mission serves at least one hot meal each day of the week.
In 2014, we served 10,647 hot meals. That number has increased to 13,073 in 2016.
In 2014, the number of men’s night stays totaled 3,028. This number has grown to 3,596.
In addition to providing a shelter for men and a community kitchen for those in need of a hot meal, we are in the process of opening up a women’s shelter to provide a shelter for single mom families and single women in need of assistance.
We invite all who would like to come visit our facility and join us for a hot meal provided by tremendous volunteer support from the community.
